A Woman was out golfing one day when she hit the ball into the woods.

She went into the woods to look for it and found a frog in a trap.

The frog said to her, "If you release me from this trap, I will grant you three wishes."

The woman freed the frog, and the frog said, "Thank you, but I failed to mention that there was a condition to your wishes.

Whatever you wish for, your husband will get times ten!"

The woman said, "That's okay."

For her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the world.

The frog warned her, "You do realize that this wish will also make your husband the most handsome man in the world, an Adonis whom women will flock to".

The woman replied, "That's okay, because I will be the most beautiful woman and he will have eyes only for me."

So, KAZAM-she's the most beautiful woman in the world!

For her second wish, she wanted to be the richest woman in the world.

The frog said, "That will make your husband the richest man in the world. And he will be ten times richer than you."

The woman said, "That's okay, because what's mine is his and what's his is mine."

So, KAZAM-she's the richest woman in the world!

The frog then inquired about her third wish, and she answered, "I'd like a mild heart attack."

Chicken Steak (Recipe)

Chicken Steak (Recipe)

Ingredients:
: 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon mustard paste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
...1 tablespoon vinegar
1/2 teaspoon crushed black pepper
1/2 teaspoon crushed white pepper
1/4 cup oil (preferably olive oil)
1 teaspoon garlic paste

Method
With the help of a flesh hammer,
pound 3-4 chicken breast fillets
 (or 500 gms. undercut beef steaks).
In a bowl add all the above ingredients and mix well
with a whisker till oil is fully blended.
add 1 teaspoon salt in it. mix well and marinate the chicken breasts
 (or beef steaks).
 marinate for 2-3 hours.
 Grill or fry in very little oil in non-stick frying pan.
 Don't fry too much otherwise the moisture will not be retained.

white sauce:

saute 2 cloves chopped garlic in a little oil in frying pan.
add 2 tablespoons white flour and brown it partially.
add 1 and half cups of milk and remove frying pan from flame.
whisk thoroughly. put the frying pan on flame again and add pinch of oregano,
 pinch of black and white pepper each and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
 Cook toll the sauce thickens. add 2 tablespoons cream and lower flame.
 whisk.
 simmer for a minute or so. pour on steaks for serving.


Garlic Bread
for garlic bread just grind a few cloves of garlic.
 soften 1-2 teaspoons butter at room temp.
 add the garlic paste, a little salt and pinch of oregano.
 spread on pieces of french bread cut in circles.
 bake in oven at high temp. for about 10-15 mins.
 or till it turns brown. u can also add
shredded mozzarella cheese on top.

How to Cure Bad Breath

Unless you enjoy frightening your best friend or watching someone's expression melt away, there is little humor in having bad breath. Everyone has it from time to time, either from something you ate or from being ill. But chronic bad breath, or halitosis, can result in an embarrassing social situation or even be a clinical hallmark of an underlying medical condition.

And, of course, there is "dumb crook" issue to worry about. Recently, a bank robber dubbed "the bad breath bandit" had Michigan police searching for a man with "very offensive breath and real yellow teeth." While the fate of the "bad breath bandit" remains unknown--and left to some very unpleasant police work--several things can help you cover your own bad breath trail.

Start simple. There is no need to look any further than the last thing you put in your mouth. Be honest with yourself. Smokers, heavy alcohol drinkers and poor daily oral hygiene are usual suspects on the bad breath hit list. Using mints and mouthwashes is generally a cosmetic intervention that only results in a temporary reprieve of offending breath at best. Most often, these items simply will make your bad breath smell like a "cover-up job."



Change your smoking and drinking habits. That's easy to say, but hard to do for many people. If the main (or only cause) of your bad breath, however, is the amount of tobacco you inhale or the booze you ingest, the only real "cure" will be to greatly reduce or eliminate these substances. Check your local resources for any assistance with tobacco and alcohol abuse issues.



Develop a good daily oral hygiene routine.  Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth and tongue with a fluoride toothpaste at least twice a day. The ADA also recommends flossing at least once daily.



Do some oral care any time you feel buildup on your teeth or tongue. Remember, the ADA recommendations are set at a minimal level. Also, remember that when food debris gets wedged between teeth (flossing out the debris is recommended), it starts to rot quickly, damaging your teeth and gums and leading to bad breath and even more serious and costly oral damage.



Keep a food diary along with a list of all prescription and over-the-counter medications, as well as vitamin or herbal supplements you take. This is especially helpful if your bad breath remains after stepping up your oral hygiene. Have a dental professional review these medications during your next oral exam. Some dental professionals specialize in bad breath, and the ADA maintains a list of each state's dental association as a resource for locating such specialists.



Do not simply live with bad breath. For the most part, it can be cured or significantly altered. Remember, bad breath is not just socially unpleasant; it may be warning sign of undetected systemic disease.

"I TOLD you to write it down! You forgot my toast!"

A 90-year-old couple were having problems with their memory,
 so they decided to go to their doctor to get checked out to make sure
 nothing was wrong with them.

They explained to the doctor about the problems
 they were having with their memory.

After checking the couple out, the doctor told them
that they were in good health,
however, the best thing to do was to start writing things
down and make notes to help them to remember things.
Later that night while watching television, the man got up
 from his chair and his wife asked,
 "Where are you going?" He replied, "To the kitchen." She asked,
 "Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?" He replied, "Sure honey."

 She then asked him, "Don't you think that you should write it down
 on a note so you can remember it?" He said, "No, I can remember that."

She then said, "Well I would also like some chocolate syrup on top.
 You had better write that down because I know you'll forget that."

He said, "I can remember that, you want a bowl of ice cream
with chocolate syrup."

She replied, "Well I also would like whipped cream on top.
 I know you will forget that so you better write it down."

Now irritated, he said, "I don't need to write that down!
I can remember that." He then goes down stairs to the kitchen.
 After about 20 minutes he returned from the kitchen
 and handed her a plate of bacon and eggs.

She stared at the plate for a moment and said angrily:
 "I TOLD you to write it down! You forgot my toast!"

Biscuit

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed, yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school.

I do not remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite. When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits and I will never forget what he said.

He smiled at her and said, "Honey, I love burned biscuits."

Later that night, I went to kiss my dad good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned.

He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your mom put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides, a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone."

Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people . I am not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else, but what I have learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults, and choosing to celebrate each other's differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing and lasting relationship.

This is my hope for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and have a good relationship where a burnt biscuit isn't a deal-breaker.

We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship.

Do not put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket; keep it in your own.

So, pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burnt one will do just fine.

Unbeatable lines: Our body is fully made of water but when it hurts blood comes out. our heart is full of blood but when ever it hurts the water comes out from eyes.

One day, all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was written:

 "Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym."

At first everyone was sad to hear that one of their colleagues had died, but after a while they started getting curious about who this person might be. The excitement grew as the employees arrived at the gym to pay their last respects. Everyone wondered:

"Who is this person who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he is no longer here!"

 One by one the employees got closer to the coffin and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood over the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul. There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself.

 There was also a sign next to the mirror that said:

"There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU.

"  YOU are the only person who can revolutionize your life.

YOU are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success.

YOU are the only person who can help yourself.

Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change,  when your company changes.

 Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realize that YOU ARE the only one responsible for your life.

  The most important relationship you can have, is the one you have with yourself

"  Examine yourself, watch yourself. Don't be afraid of difficulties, impossibilities and losses:

be a winner, build yourself and your reality.

23. What do you mean by denotative, connotative, structural and contextual meanings?
Word is described as connotative when it adds a connotation, or suggestion of meaning. A connotation suggests character, nature, or implies something beyond the basic meaning of the phrase in which they're used.

Semantics

Define the following            
         
1.Semantics.

Semantics is the study of meaning. It typically focuses on the relation between signifiers, such as words, signs and phrases, symbols, and what they stand for

Linguistic semantics is the study of meanings that humans use language to express. Other forms of semantics include the semantics of programming languages, formal logics, and semiotics.

The word "semantics" itself denotes a range of ideas, from the popular to the highly technical. It is often used in ordinary language to denote a problem of understanding that comes down to word selection or connotation.

  Zoosemiotics. Animal communication is any behavior on the part of one animal that has an effect on the current or future behaviour of another animal. The study of animal communication, sometimes called Zoosemiotics

2. Wilbur Schramm. Wilbur Lang Schramm is sometimes called the "father of communication studies," and had a great influence on the development of communication research in the United States, and the establishing of departments of communication studies in US universities.

Schramm was born in Marietta, Ohio. After working for the Associated Press, he received an MA in American civilization at Harvard University and a Ph.D. in English at the University of Iowa, where he eventually founded the creative writing workshop. His own stories resulted in his award of the O. Henry Prize for fiction in 1942. His interests extended beyond the humanistic tradition, and some of his early work examined the economic conditions surrounding the publication of Chaucer's tales, and audience reactions to poetry written in different meters. During the Second World War, Schramm joined the Office of War Information to investigate the nature of propaganda, and during this time and after employed largely behaviorist methodologies.

Langue is a municipality in the Honduran department of Valle. The town is located near the border of El Salvador and is a regional Hammock making center. Signified The signified is the concept the signifier represents. Or, as ChangingMinds.org puts it, "The signified is the concept, the meaning, the thing indicated by the signifier." Our minds are full of signifieds. Each time you encounter a signifier or a series or collection of signifers, your mind conjures up a signified idea or image.

Connotative meaning According to Chandler, "the term 'connotation' is used to refer to the socio-cultural and 'personal' associations (ideological, emotional etc.) of the sign." According to Barthes, connotative meaning occurs when an entire sign (the relationship between a signifier and its signified content) becomes a signifier itself. When we're dealing with connotative meaning, we're in the terrain of what Barthes calls "second order signification." According to Chandler, connotative meanings "are determined by the codes to which the interpreter has access." That is, connotation is culturally specific. For example, in a society where wolves are feared as predators, a political advertisement that juxtaposes a candidate with images of wolves would, on a connotative level, mean that the candidate is threatening and fearsome. Conversely, in a society where wolves are revered and respected, such a juxtaposition might convey a connotative meaning of a respectable, powerful candidate.

A second level of meanings is termed connotative. These meanings are not objective representations of the thing, but new usages produced by the language group


Connotative meaning is the subjective meaning that an individual brings to a word based as experiences, prejudices, and life's lessons. Denotative is dictionary meaning that nearly everyone agrees upon.

Communication is the production and exchange of information and meaning by use of signs and symbols. It involves encoding and sending messages, receiving and decoding them, and synthesizing information and meaning. Communication permeates all levels of human experience and it is central to understanding human behavior and to nearly all public health efforts aimed at fostering health behavior change among individuals, populations, organizations, communities, and societies.

Communication may be studied empirically and critically at different levels of interaction. These levels, often described on a "micro-to-micro" continuum are "intra-personal" (how individuals process information), "inter-personal" (how two individuals interact to influence one another), group (how communication dynamics occur among many individuals), formal and informal "organizations" (how communication occurs and functions in the context of organizations such as hospitals, schools, or public health agencies), and "community" and "society" (how communication builds or changes the agenda of important issues).

Empirical study means applying scientific methods to the study of communication; as in the study of behavior change resulting from exposure to a communication campaign. ORGANIZATION OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES

Communication scholar George Gerbner describes three main branches of communication study. The first is "semiotics," the study of signs and symbols and how they combine to convey meaning in different social contexts. This branch is mainly concerned with how verbal, nonverbal, visual, and aural signs and symbols combine to create messages.

The second branch, media effects, is the study of behavior and interaction through exposure to messages. It emphasizes measuring, explaining, and predicting communication effects on knowledge, perceptions, beliefs, attitudes, and public opinion. It is strongly influenced by scientific methods from the fields of psychology and social psychology.

The third branch, message production, is the study of the large-scale organization of communications through social institutions and systems (mass media, political organizations, government, advocacy groups), their history, regulation, and policy-making impact. It is strongly influenced by scientific methods from the field of sociology, but also by the methods of political science, history, and public affairs.

Just as no single behavioral theory explains and predicts all human behavior, no communication theory explains and predicts all communication outcomes. Some view this as a fragmentation in understanding the role of a communication in human affairs. Others view this as a productive theoretical diversity, conducive to the understanding of human activity in many complex dimensions. Communication researchers have increasingly sought to connect and to integrate effects across levels of analysis, from the "micro" to the macro. For example, health campaign planners may study the effects of a media campaign in generating interpersonal discussion. They might look at media story about a new drug or treatment to see if it causes patients to raise the issue with their health care providers.

Achieving Your Goals

First and foremost positive thinking and big ambition is the first step to achieving your goals in life. However, it goes without saying that lofty goals without taking action is infructious.


The different is between dreaming and aiming in life is that - if you have to dream you have to fall asleep but if you have to aim high in life  you must spend sleepless nights and having said that below are few pointers which one must remember in order to realize their dreams.


1)     the difference is between condition and conditioning and for this to happen one must have realistic dreams and have be believe that the condition will change if the efforts made towards a goal are consistently. ( Conditioning here means not go wilt under pressure and give up )


2)      One door always open the other and hence we have to take the first small step and continue the journey incessantly.


3)      For the above to happen we must have a passion for what we do and the chosen carrier or objective has to be what we love to do the must.


4)      If this happens then the universe is bound to conspire in your favor and present you with viable opportunity.


5)      Therefore, firstly dreams have to be realistic and not general or abstract like  I want to be a big man in life or I want to touch many lives but this must be step by step process and each step must be defined and achievable.


Dreams are what motivate you in life and from the perspective of management science or philosophy  everything is in a state of  Flux and it is inherant in  a man to keep moving forward. Therefore, the dreams are bound to be there which is what gives one the motivation to achieve greater heights.

Good Health Comes First

The recently concluded FIFA World Cup football in South Africa caused worldwide excitement. Indians were overtaken by the passion of the game even though India was not participating in the event.

It is easy to get infected with the spirit of the game in a globalised world with its vast media networks that enable people to watch the game even at odd hours. Often such infectious spirit drives us to indulge ourselves on the material plane and remain immersed in superficial aspects of life. But every sphere of life, including the sphere of sports and games, must explore the infinite dimensions which impact human existence and about which we are not adequately aware.

When Swami Vivekananda returned to India in 1897 after his historic trip to America where he addressed the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893, he delivered a series of lectures. In one of them he linked the attainment of spirituality to football. He said to the youth: "You will be nearer to Heaven through football than through the study of the Bhagavad Gita."

·         Good health is the first step to strive for perfection. It involves overcoming weakness and acquiring confidence and spiritual dignity. It means cultivating self-esteem. Scripture-reading is not sufficient if we are driven by frailties and temptations.

·         Exercise is the key to achieve higher and finer objectives. Vivekananda was giving precedence to the individual's right to quality health which can provide access to many other wonderful realms. He said that Indians remained lazy because they were deprived of strength and energy. He explained our inability to work in terms of our physical weakness. He even painfully noted that the root cause of selfishness and disunity among Indians was our weakness manifested in fragile body and spirit. He earnestly pleaded for measures to strengthen our physical and mental health.

A scholar saint of worldwide fame, he advocated that health considerations must precede the quest for religion. "Our young men must be strong, religion will come afterwards. You will understand the Upanishads better and the glory of the Atman when your body stands firm upon your feet, and you feel yourselves as men," he said.

Passion for football must promote good health and purity of mind. The pursuit of sports and games will truly help us realise the essence of life which often gets overwhelmed by existential compulsions and loses its meaning and significance.

Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, a close associate of M K Gandhi, had said that mere excellence in the field of football and cricket will not make a nation. He meant that nation-building involves building of character and cultivation of values.

When Swami Vivekananda linked spirituality with football he was stressing as much on the ability to play that game as the capacity to realise divinity, a far more exalted goal than that of mere nation building.

What is required is the balanced blending of physical and spiritual dimensions.

Have you ever wondered why teeth become loose? And have you observed that in earlier times it was more common to come across people who had all their teeth removed and replaced with a new set of artificial dentures? Fortunately, this is on the decrease, thanks to the progress of dentistry over the years.

Teeth are anchored to the jaw bones firmly by a thin elastic tissue called the periodontal ligament. Factors which affect the ligament and the supporting bone can loosen the teeth resulting in mobility of varying degrees or thus weakening the teeth. This situation may be acute, temporary and reversible, chronic, long-standing or manageable. The former is invariable painful and may or may not have infection while the latter may be painless and is usually accompanied with some amount of infection. Teeth loosening in some cases may be so bad the teeth may be exfoliated.

There are systemic, genetic and local factors which may cause mobility of teeth and the treatment is planned after understanding all the factors involved and with the information obtained by necessary x-rays. We may see a combination of various aspects in a single patient.

Smoking, alcohol consumption and diabetes mellitus seem to affect people more commonly but also included are those caused by drugs and hormonal problems. However, the most common reason would be plain neglect and bad oral hygiene due to lack of information and regular maintenance.

The facilities available to a dentist to manage such problems are in a wide range but essentially boils down to the fact of removing all the plaque, tartar formations, performing gum surgery (via laser included) where needed, removing all the infection and thereby reducing all inflammation of the supporting structures of the teeth.

Proper management of periodontal disease will help control and improve the surrounding tissues and thus provide and environment to strengthen the teeth.

Synthetic bone grafting is possible in special locations to strengthen the supporting bone and teeth. These are available in various types. Splinting teeth together (joining them up or tying them) will strengthen them to the extent that they are in a better position to resist masticatory forces. This will help to prolong the life and retention of natural teeth. With splinting, smaller individual teeth will function as one larger unit, offering better resistance to the chewing forces. There are several methods to achieve this and each situation needs to be assessed properly, and a proper treatment plan evolved.

No matter what sophisticated methods and plans are adopted, without proper follow-ups, patient education and day-to-day care, the situation may relapse or fail earlier than the expected time.

Note:

In case your teeth are weak and little loose, please used a paste of Haldi (turmeric) and Honey to the tooth/teeth for 5 minutes before brushing them at night before sleeping. The base will become strong and the looseness will soon vanish

Who is Great?


Mother is great or Mother in law is great?

My friend after her PUC 2nd year she came to city for her further studies. She got admission in Government College. She searched P.G accommodation for herself.

After her studies she got married & settled in city itself. She had nice memories & good experiment with P.G mates.

She gave birth to boy baby in her native place. She wanted her mother in law to look after her baby so that she can join office once she completes her maternity leave. But her mother in law strongly commented that she is not going to take care of her grandson. She said that, ‘we have already adopted girl baby who is 5 years old. We don’t want to take any risk & there is no time to look after your baby’.

This poor lady unfortunately left her 3months old baby in her mother’s place & she joined her office. Her mother is taking care with great love & pampering. Some times we get confuse to judge whether carrier is important or family is important. Is there any thing wrong, if a woman want to support her family financially.

Be Aware And Embrace Life

The whole world is one; it's a synthesis. Life is possible only through cooperation. All species and sub-species, all that exists, is the result of synthesis, of integration.

Disintegration means decay. The order of the universe would get disturbed with division and discord.

The science of environment underlines the importance of union for survival, of the desirability of not interfering with natural processes, of not upsetting nature's equilibrium, so that there is no confusion.

Greed and exploitation of natural resources has led to pollution, including that of the earth's atmosphere. The protective layer that scientists call the ozone layer surrounding earth shields us from the ill effects of direct radiation from the sun. The erosion of this protective cover could mean the end of life, if nothing is done to reverse the erosion.

It is, therefore, essential that we cultivate a constructive approach towards the environment.

For the evolution of constructive thinking, it is necessary to purify our consciousness. As it is, our consciousness is battling impurities; it is so identified with things and ideas. It must rid itself of all identification, so as to be capable of fitting in with the other and with society.

Violence, untruth and sense of possession and domination characterising our consciousness now needs to be got rid of. Our consciousness must be cleansed of these impurities; otherwise our approach will continue to be negative and destructive.

The first step towards achieving this goal is to transform our outlook from the materialistic to the holistic - by becoming more aware.

This is not an impossible goal; it can be done if an individual can learn to be sober, simple and tolerant; and become more a witness who is aware.

A negative attitude is caused by our materialistic approach that has made us too attached to material things.

The moment we see things for what they are, we would be able to understand the true value of material objects, and would never aspire to gain domination over them.

We would then realise the essential humanity of the other and see the other as being a part of us.

Otherwise, every situation will seem problematic; problems keep multiplying without any possibility of a solution. In such a scenario, even religion becomes a problem.

The only way out of this vicious cycle is to become less rigid in our thinking and in the way we feel and act.

Get rid of stereotypical conduct that makes us live a life of dejection. We need to be mindful and compassionate.

There are two kinds of insensitivity: Confused vision and thoughtless conduct.

A mediator must clearly understand that the first priority is to chastise attitudes by getting rid of ignorance. This would require experimentation and experience. Learn to experience truth.

Practise meditation. Mere accumulation of information and even knowledge is not enough. Practice combined with theory yields valuable results.

Know the value of the present moment. Gain insight by being a witness, by becoming more aware.

May our hearts be filled with an intense longing for liberation so that we may progress undeterred on the path of awareness and oneness. Therein lies our salvation.

Shake Hands With Life - Atleast Halfway

Everybody is floating in a vacuum, so to speak. Or, they're living on a surface.

We are strangers to our own self. The world around us, glorifying glamour, celebrating the superfluous and taken up with virtual images, has become so disconnected. When one reads of a celebrity or student taking her own life, it makes me wonder, why would anyone wish to end what is essentially a beautiful life?

Loss of face, depression, weakness and fear of rejection by family and society are some of the reasons for dejection. All these point to one thing: lack of faith and stunted self growth.

Says Dada J P Vaswani, "Depression is not what happens to us. It is due to what happens in us." However, it is failures and difficulties that make life so interesting, he points out. It is unrealistic to accept success and profit all the time; it is foolhardy to consider life as nothing but a series of problems. "Learn to live life as it is. Bend and you will not break!" advises Dada.

During a crisis we do need emotional support from family and friends; but if such support is not available for some reason, it is necessary to find it within. Inner resource will help us detach ourselves from the maya of illusion. Remember the saying: `This too shall pass away.'

Scientist and inventor Thomas Edison once remarked, "There is great value in disaster."

It is true that disappointments, pain and suffering have made life difficult for many of us – but surviving those against all odds has also made heroes out of us.

Like a tea bag, we tend to become stronger when in hot water. "For every hurt, for every plight, for every lonely pain racked night etc there is a reason. But if we trust the Lord, as we should, it all will work out for our good. He knows the reason."

There is a deeper meaning in life which is not seen immediately; it gets revealed slowly, later in life. But impatient as we are, we cannot wait – in our haste we forget to live and so we lose touch with our inner self that could have given us immense strength.

Insecurity grows by leaps due to lack of trust and that hinders bonding and so leads to absence of true emotional support. Add to this the excess of material values, which makes an individual self-conscious of his weaknesses. He suffers then from low self-esteem.

If only we could tap into our inner source, we would get empowered to face all odds. That is why it is so important to make the effort to shake hands with life; then it will meet us halfway.

Unfortunately, fear of failure haunts most people. We sail in the same boat.

We seek support and security in a relationship, in materialistic risk coverage, in money and friends. But the basic insecurity lies within. It can be transformed only with faith; by mental and spiritual exercises.

Perhaps the educational system should incorporate a curriculum of courage-giving courses to increase an individual's spiritual quotient.

Half an hour of yoga, meditation and storytelling of heroes and great souls and such inspirational talk would go a long way in making youth strong and courageous.

And to face the challenges at the ground level, let schools and colleges make it obligatory for students to do social service to the less privileged.

Let's meet life halfway at least.

Life Is A Football Pitch – Enjoy Every Moment

They say football is the ballet of the masses. There is no other way to describe a game that has legions of fans all over the world, something that the World Cup bears testimony to. And the fan following is by far the most passionate of any sport. Some have literally sacrificed everything for the game – spent all their life savings to faithfully support their teams on tour and even had families walk out on them. Their love for football supersedes all else. What is it that makes football so beautiful, so fascinating, and so seductive?

There is something really simple and inherently natural about football that anyone, no matter which part of the world he comes from or what language he speaks, can relate to. Little wonder that football is the most popular sport in the world. You don't even need to know the rules of the game to play.

Football is the game that teaches you all the dos and don'ts. As soon as the rotund rubber bladder is placed at your feet, you know what to do. It is precisely this that the planners of this year's World Cup had in mind when they christened the tournament ball `Jabulani', the Zulu word meaning `to celebrate'.

At the same time, football is much more than just kicking around and chasing a ball. It is a game that has honour, respect, courage, teamwork and discipline as its fundamental values.

French-Algerian philosopher Albert Camus, a goalkeeper in his youth, had acknowledged that it was football that taught him everything about morality and duty. Camus's analysis stems from the fact that the camaraderie that one experiences on being a part of a football team, the sense of shared grief in loss and joy in victory, provides for great learning and wisdom.

The game of football itself is a metaphor for life, a constant struggle between free will and the unpredictable forces of destiny.

Just as in life, the number of variables in a game of football is huge.

To predict an outcome not only would we have to take into account the performances of each of the 22 players on that given day, but also consider external factors such as wind, liveliness of the pitch, flight of the ball, and team tactics, to name a few.

There are so many unknowns that a football game is not unlike the mysteries of the universe. Not even the best brains have been able to come up with a unified formula that explains everything in the cosmos.

The contradiction between classical physics on the one hand and quantum physics on the other continues to haunt us. Scientists have failed to marry the two effectively and come up with a universal theory of everything.

It is here that football might have an answer. For, like in life, contradictions reign supreme in football only to be intermittently superseded by moments of brilliance when opposing forces align to produce perfect symphony.

And what fans experience is blissful harmony when a player is able to see through obstacles, defy the unknown, take a risk and produce a spark of genius to achieve his goal. It is then that we realise that life is a football pitch and we ordinary mortals are connected to the music of the cosmos through the rhythm of the beautiful game.

Be Worthy Of Imitation

They say imitation is the greatest compliment, but are your actions worthy of imitation?
 We are all in some setting of leadership. Whether it be as a parent, boss, or friend
we should constantly examine the example we are setting for those around us.

 Are you being a positive role model?
 Are you treating others in a dignified way?

 Be a cheerful and diligent worker, parent, and boss to those around you.
 Children, especially, are like sponges taking in your every action and
 word--they naturally want to be just like you.

So be mindful of your word and deed, you never know who might be
 watching and silently learning what you are demonstrating.

We Don't See, We Recognize

Have you ever saw someone and thought that he was one of your friends but then upon approaching him you found that he was someone else?

Have you ever heard something then after thinking about it you discovered that you heard something else rather than what was said?

Have your ever read a line or a word thinking that it's something then after reading it again you discovered that its something else?

If we did assume that your sight and hearing ability are functioning well, what is happening then?

The answer is very simple, we don't see nor hear, we recognize!!

Don't get shocked, this is how your mind operates, to understand the whole story just take a look at the following example.

Example For Recognizing Instead Of Seeing

Suppose you were working for a company called "spot", and while driving you saw a road sign with the word "stop" written on it, most probably on the first instance you will read it "spot", because your mind will try to recognize first by checking whether what you are seeing have got a match in your knowledge database or not, and so you read it "spot" instead of "stop", but when your minds finds that its not logical to have a spot with a red sign on the road, then it will correct it by reading the correct word.

So the process was a two step process:

·         You recognized the word by finding the closest match.

·         You actually read the word.

What's funny is that someone who is working as a traffic man may read the logo of your company "stop" instead of "spot", and then his mind will correct it.

The previous example is the same one as the one we mentioned where you saw someone else thinking that he is your friend, in that case your mind just recognized the person first to see if he matches any of your friends or relatives knowledge base, and if no match was found then it corrects the view and you discover whom that person is.

Even In Love

It's worth to mention that if you love someone, your mind will try to match him more than anybody else, i.e. you may see many people looking like him everywhere you go, you just try to recognize everyone who have got similar looks as being him.

When Reading Or Hearing

The same goes with hearing and reading, your mind just tries to recognize first and then read or hear correctly as a second step.

This is one of the main concepts that speed reading is built upon, you just train yourself to recognize words and phrases instead of reading them and so this results in a faster speed of reading.

How To Fix The Systems In Our Lives?

Life is made up of a series of systems which can be changed to make our lives better.

We all have systems going on in our lives: sleep, career, hobbies, relationships, money management, goals, personal hygiene, health, eating, etc.

I believe one of the key components of a successful life is to be able to manage all the systems in our lives as efficiently and as painless as possible.

For example if we have a health problem, we have to look at the system of health in our life, dissect it and find out where the problem is lying and look at ways of fixing it.

Similarly if we have a problem with managing our money, we dissect the money management system and look for the reasons we cannot manage our money correctly, and then look at ways of fixing it.

What I've come to realise is that when these systems are working well our lives tend to go well and everything is hunky dory, but when one of the systems fail, it causes the others to fail in some way as well.  It's like a cog in a machine, if one of the cogs break then it effectively breaks the whole machine.

Sleep is a system which has a set of subsystems, which, if tweaked correctly, can help us to get a great night sleep, give us more energy and allow us to sleep less.  We just have to look at sleep as a whole, break it down and then start tweaking what's not working.

Then, when I started looking at other areas of life I soon realised than we can do this with almost every area of our life.

If you think about it we are a system of habits.

Most of our life is made up of things we do every day, day in day out and it doesn't change much.  This might make us humans sound dull and uninteresting but it's a good thing really as it keeps our lives together, it keeps us from feeling stressed as we know pretty much what we are going to be doing this time next week, we know where we will be celebrating Christmas, we know when we are going on holiday, we know when we are going to work, when we sit down for dinner, when we have to study and the list goes on.  So, because we are going to live our lives like this wouldn't it make sense to make it the best system we could and make things run smoothly and even make it work for us, and make it better.

The Systems In Our Lives

One of the first things to do is look at every system in your life just now and assess it.  The simple way to assess it is just give it a mark out of 10, nothing fancy, a quick, intuitive mark which tells you how well you think that particular part of life is going.

Look at some of the systems below, add some of your own and give them a mark out of 10:

·         Health

·         Career

·         Marriage

·         Relationship with children

·         Money

·         Life Goals

·         Friends

·         Sleep

·         Diet

·         Spirituality

·         Fun

I will give you an example of the diet system in your life and how it can be analysed:

Suppose a person's diet is not going so great, so it would be time to look at his diet and figure out why he only scored it 6 out of 10.  And that would be the next part; to drill down on the system and find the sub-systems in order to tweak it as much as possible.

Looking at the subsystems

Once we recognise that something isn't quite right with one of the systems in our life we can then drill down on it to find out why it's not working and aim to look at fixing it.

In case of Diet one can ask following questions (subsystems):

·         What do I eat?

·         What do I drink?

·         How many calories do I consume?

·         What type of bread do I eat?

·         When do I eat?

·         What foods make me sluggish?

·         What are the staple foods I eat?

Etc.

From the example above you can ask a lot of questions about the system of your diet and look at each different sub-system and start to tweak it.  It would be a matter of testing and tweaking until you get that particular system of your life just right, and keep on tweaking it until it is near perfect.

Of course there could be two or three sub-systems that work hand in hand to affect the overall harmony of the whole system.  So you might think your diet is not that great and you keep putting on a few pounds no matter how little you eat, but it could be you're eating late at night and hardly anything during the day.  This means that your body is storing fat during the day as it thinks you're not eating enough and you're releasing fat at night, but not as much due to your expending less energy when you are sleeping.

When you start to look at all the systems of your life in turn and drill down on them and look at the sub-systems you can really get a handle on the things that you need to do to improve your overall life.

This is just a brief overview of looking at the systems in your life and I hope it makes sense and is useful in your life.

10 Beliefs That Could Hold You Back In Life

I have spoken a lot about beliefs and how to change them to make your life better. There are certain beliefs that a lot of people believe and I think it's time to address these.

We are initially given beliefs from our parents, teachers, peers, TV and media. When we are young we think adults know more than us so we generally trust in what they say. However as we get older we form our own beliefs about the world. However some of the residual beliefs from our childhood can remain. Sometimes they have remained without us knowing about them.

Here are some beliefs that may be residual, see if you recognise any of them and change them.

·         If You Fail At Something You Are A Failure: This is perpetuated at school and throughout our days of turning into an adult. We are encouraged to win at all costs. If I fail at something, and I have many times, I try again, and again, and again until I get it right. If you believe that "if you fail at something you are a failure" then that means everyone in the world is a failure. Don't hold yourself back by believing this. Install a new belief.

·         Why Change It If It's Not Broken: I don't mean changing for the sake of changing. I am talking about improving upon existing appliances, processes etc. We need change to move on with life and you will always come up against people who don't like change, avoid them if you can. If you see something that could be improved try and implement it.

·         You Are Not Skilled Enough To Go For It: Nobody in life is skilled enough until they start doing it. If you want to do something just start doing it, don't stress about not getting into university to do a degree in computing, just do it until you get in. The internet has more information than you will get at university, college or school it's just a matter of finding it. If you are good and you sell yourself well, you will get noticed.

·         You Are Too Old To Start Something New: The average life expectancy in the UK is about 75 for men and 79 for women and it is similar in the US and Europe. This will change and soon we'll be seeing the average life expectancy at 100. This means we are never too old to start something new. Starting a new venture is a great way to keep the brain active and to keep motivation up for living. I believe we are a nation of people who expect to die at around 75 or so, so what happens? We do. If we expect to live to 100 we would do more changing, feel less inhibited by time. Just do it.

·         Believing God Is An Entity Outside Your Control: You control God, not the other way about. When I say God, I mean a spiritual force, I don't mean the bible and all that as that is obviously not to be believed literally. God is a force within you, when you pray, you are praying to yourself, when you ask forgiveness you are asking yourself for forgiveness. Nobody in this universe controls you, you control the force within you, never let go of that belief. You do not need anybody or anything to allow you to live your own life, live it for yourself and help others to live theirs.

·         You Won't Amount To Anything: The very fact that you are alive says that you are special. If you want to be extraordinary you have to put in the effort. Every single one of us has a talent we don't know about or have not yet been recognised for. Try everything to find something that you love. I am a great believer in change; you don't have to do one thing all your life. Change your lifestyle many times until you find a path you love and are willing to work on.

·         The World Does Not Revolve Around You: The whole universe is all about you. Every single person on this planet has a different world going on inside their heads. You see the world differently from me and I see it differently from someone else. Therefore the world is about you. Tell me now: what are you going to do to change your world?

·         Nobody Believes In You: I believe in you, but my opinion is worth nothing, everybody's opinion is worth nothing. Work on believing in yourself and work on letting go of needing others to believe in you. As soon as you start believing in yourself other people will start believing in you, but let go of needing their belief.

·         You Will Never Make That Amount Of Money: I have heard this so many times. You will make exactly what you expect to make. If I say to myself `There is no way I could make a million pounds' my brain will not look for ways of making that million. If I am determined enough to make a million my brain will help me look for ways of making it, no matter how outrageous the idea, at least you will be creating ideas.

·         There Is Nothing You Can Do About It: Rubbish! You can change any aspect of your life you just can't see it yet. Some people never get past this and it's such a shame. Life can be hard and it takes guts to make the decision to change your life, but you can change it. Know what you want, know the steps you have to take and then change it.

The Dark Side Of Positive Thinking

The other day I came across a post on
positive thinking and it really made me think. Today I'd like to share my thoughts on the subject.

I'm a big fan of positive thinking, really I am. Those who think positively tend to have a much greater quality of life than those who let negative thoughts continually command their lives. But the fact of the matter is, positive thinking can only get you so far, by no means is it the answer to all your problems.

Being an active member in the personal development community, I see countless of individuals claiming their lives are a mess, many modeling the complaint,"I sit at home all day thinking about all the things I want, but nothing good ever comes out of it."

Really? Do you really think just sitting at home all day thinking "positive thoughts" will manifest the life that you desire? Unfortunately many do.

That's the problem with movies like the Secret and similar belief models; they falsely market the idea of "think it and it will occur." Hundreds of thousands of individuals believe that by just thinking positively their life is going to magically transform. They then fall victim to the delusion of their own reality, causing a tremendous amount of pain and suffering.

Does that render visualization and uplifting affirmations useless? - Absolutely not. I'd be crazy if I were to say positive thinking is worthless, because it really can make a huge impact on the life you live. Yet the act of wishful thinking remains deficient, it can't stand alone without quickly collapsing.

Positive thinking without action is like a beautiful car without wheels. It doesn't matter how good it looks, without wheels your car isn't going to go very far (if anywhere at all.) This same principle applies to your life journey. You can think all the wonderful thoughts you want, but without Effort and Execution the life you long for won't ever truly appear.

Because a great majority of our society is so habitually negative to begin with, positive thinking often represents a tremendous upgrade to the quality of one's life. A positive thought is Always better than a negative one. But in the end reality always trumps your thoughts regardless of its intention.

I'm not going to lie; I tend to be an overly optimistic person, with an occasional flash of pessimistic pride. I like to believe that I am going to create massive change in this world. I like to believe that one day I'm going to touch millions of people's lives. I like to believe that through my writing and passion for growth that I will have an impact on all those who encounter me. Some pretty lofty goals. And for me to make my goals and aspirations a reality, I'm going to have to think big and take constant action. That is the only way.

It takes a truly aware individual to acknowledge when his or her reality isn't congruent with their thoughts. Yet examining your reality from an objective lens is essential. No doubt doing so takes a great deal of courage but it is required to really grow. Flooding your head with positive intentions is a great step up from a mind filled with negative muck, but even then you still have room to evolve.

Do you substitute action with thoughts of fluff? Or do you supplement positive thinking with consistent hustle?

All the thinking in the world doesn't change the truth.

Being Overly Optimistic

Being Overly Optimistic


It is good to be optimistic as it can keep our spirit up and optimistic people tend to achieve what they want to achieve. Isn't that true? Yes, that is what the experts or everyone is saying. But how true is this theory that being optimistic is beneficial to us?

Let us take a look at The Secret. The theory of The Secret is that you will need to keep thinking about what you want in order to attract it to your life. So naturally this means that you will need to be optimistic and think only about the positive. I am not saying that being positive is a wrong thing to do but I am questioning whether it is the best approach?

I had seen people who embrace the theory of being optimistic in every situation and it does well for them because they feel happier at that very moment. But it seems like to be that they are being blinded by their optimism that they lose their perception of reality. They drift to the future and lost sense of what is right in front of them now.

Let us take a look at an example. Let's say John has a goal and his goal is to achieve financial freedom. But his situation right now is not favourable. He is working in a 12 hours a day job and earning $1500 per month. He decided to adopt the optimistic approach, be optimistic, think positive and hoping that things will get better.

Optimist Approach vs Realist Approach

How many of you believe that staying optimistic is going to help John achieve financial freedom? Yes, The Secret says so that staying optimistic and thinking positive will attract the scenarios to help him get his dream job and earn $100,000 per year. But I am sure that this approach will not work out well.

To be fair to The Secret, I got to agree that staying optimistic to a certain extent does help to keep the mind sane. But this approach isn't really the best way to achieve what you want in life. So what if John takes another approach instead? – The Realist Approach.

John has a goal to achieve financial freedom and he is stuck in his day 12 hours day job earning $1500 per month. He chose to be aware of his current situation. He knows that what he is doing now is not going to get him to where he wants to be. The reality, the harsh facts and true numbers are staring in his face. He want to change and he knows that he is not optimistic about his current situation and in fact, he felt pessimistic about his future if things are going to continue the way it is. This is the point where he decided to change because is aware of his present situation.

Which approach do you think is the better one? The optimistic approach where John just stays optimistic and think positive or the realist approach where John is aware of the truth right now and decided that he needs to fix it in order to move on?

Just staying positive and overly optimistic puts you into a self denial mode and eventually you will become the world's biggest liar by lying to yourself everyday. You lose your sense of reality (not earning enough money now) and escape to the future (financial freedom). This is not a very smart thing to do because if you do not fix your problems of today, the problem will still be there tomorrow. The problem doesn't go away if all you do is to be optimistic of the future and stay ignorant of the problem staring at you now.

Parting Words

What I want to reinforce here is that you will need to avoid letting optimism take over your sense of reality. If you are unhealthy, broke or unhappy, it is a problem that you need to fix now. Don't hold on to the thought that things will be better tomorrow when you are not taking any action to fix it. If nothing had been done, things are going to stay the same way! What do you think? So many big arguments begin with small comments. How many times have you started a conversation on friendly terms, and then wound up in some kind of dispute that you didn't anticipate?

In my work as a family, divorce, and small-claims mediator, I've seen countless offhand remarks start a fight or add fuel to an existing fire. And I have found myself in plenty of situations where I've wanted to give someone (my husband, a colleague) what I thought was helpful advice only to inadvertently offend him or her.

The holidays, with all their extended-family gatherings, can be a verbal minefield. You're either dodging nosy questions from some tactless relative over dinner ("Still dieting then?") or taking out the stress of all that extra cooking and shopping on those dearest to you ("Do I have to do everything around here?").

It doesn't have to be that bad. Use these 10 go-to phrases to defuse potentially volatile conversations and help you get through the coming weeks and the months and years to follow in harmony.

1. "Thank you for your opinion. I'll think about it. "When you receive unsolicited advice at a family gathering, such as Aunt Sylvia's suggestion that you change your hairstyle, just smile and respond with this casual conversation terminator. If you're rudely asked a question like "Are you still single?" don't reply with a lengthy excuse. Say, "Yes, and I'll let you know if anything changes." The goal is to be polite and end the conversation. There is no need to be defensive or rude.

2. "Is this a good time for you?" Whenever I want my husband's full attention for a conversation and I don't want to compete with a football game on TV, I ask this simple question. If he gives me a green light by saying yes (and turning off the game), I proceed. If he says no, I ask, "When would be a better time?" We then agree on another time and a fight is avoided. 3. "Would you like my thoughts?" One of the biggest complaints kids have about parents is that they constantly issue orders and judgments. Sometimes this is a parent's job. But if you are often confronted with an angry response ("Who made you the authority?" or "It's none of your business"), you might benefit from dialing back. Ask your child if she wants to hear what you have to say. If she says yes, it means she is ready to listen. If she says no, then button your lip. This works for adult family members, too.

4. "Why don't we get the facts?" Some people who come to mediation tend to argue about anything and everything, including things that can be easily resolved. If you find yourself in a dispute with your brother about the price of a car or the name of the restaurant you went to over the holidays last year, state this one-liner, then look up prices online, call a store, or drive by the restaurant not so one of you can say, "I told you so," but so you can move on from the discussion before it spirals into a fight.

5. "I need your help. Can you please…?" People often ask me what they can say to family members or coworkers who don't assume their share of responsibility. Here's my simple tip: Rather than accusing the person of being lazy or inconsiderate, ask her for what you want and be specific. "Since we both drink coffee, how about if I make the pot and you clean it, or vice versa?" People are not mind readers.

6. "Let's wait on this until we have more information". Know when to table a discussion. One couple came to me with a dispute that had turned into a huge problem for them: They were constantly arguing over whether they should stay in their city apartment or move to a house in the suburbs. The issue wasn't which choice they should make (they had already agreed they wouldn't move for three years, or until their oldest child reached school age); it was that they were having a premature argument. At times like these, it's important to remind yourself and your conversation partner that it's too early to discuss the issue. Preferences will change over time, as will facts, such as home prices.

7. "What did you mean by that?" Sometimes asking the right question is all it takes to avoid an argument. We all make assumptions about other people's intentions. Asked in a genuinely interested (and not passive-aggressive) way, this question allows your conversation partner to explain himself before you jump to conclusions. Only then should you offer your response.

8. "I don't like that, so why don't we do this instead?" This is how to complain with impact. Rather than nagging your mate about a problem, focus on finding a solution for the future. For example, instead of moaning about buying all the holiday gifts, suggest that he shop for the men in the family and you buy for the women or split some other duties.

9. "I'm sorry you're upset." When you find yourself frustrated with a friend or a close family member who didn't take your advice, you desperately want to say something like "I told you so" or "That was a dumb thing to do." Don't. Dishing out criticism won't change a thing. A compassionate response will help you both move forward.

10. "Let me get back to you." Everyone needs a prepared comment to delay a response when he or she is put on the spot. For example, a cousin suggests you prepare a main course for her potluck Christmas party for 20 people or the president of the PTA picks you to head a committee for a year. Keep this line handy at all times, especially during the holiday season. If you don't want the person to feel as if she is being dismissed, give her a time when she can expect a response: "Let me get back to you by tomorrow afternoon." And then make sure that you do.
